Beverly, an Area Customer Representative and long-time member of our Carbonear team, grew up in New Harbour and has proudly served customers and supported her coworkers at Newfoundland Power for the past 37 years. With a love for numbers and business administration, Beverly first joined the company after her mother, eager to see her succeed, mailed in her resume. She was hired in St. John’s right away but soon transferred to Carbonear, where she’s been ever since.
Beverly enjoys connecting with her colleagues and helping customers. A dedicated member of the Carbonear Employees’ Association Executive throughout her career, she recently joined the retiree Trailblazers Executive, bringing the same enthusiasm and leadership to her new role.
Outside of work, Beverly is passionate about supporting breast cancer awareness and research. A three-year survivor herself, she’s proud to have raised nearly $1,300 in this year’s CIBC Run for the Cure. Her journey shows her strength both inside and outside — a true fighter who continues to inspire others with her determination and optimism. She dreams of seeing a cure for cancer in her lifetime and encourages everyone to stay proactive with regular screenings because early detection saves lives.
As we mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Beverly’s story is a powerful reminder of hope, resilience, and the strength it takes to keep fighting.
Beverly is the power in our story. ⚡
Bob, a Powerline Technician based in St. John’s, has been part of the Newfoundland Power family for an outstanding 51 and a half years. His career began by chance — while walking down Water Street one afternoon, he spotted a crew of lineworkers, asked if there were any openings, and the rest is history. More than five decades later, Bob says he’s stayed because he’s always enjoyed the work and the people. The most rewarding moments for him come after storms, when power is restored and he sees customers’ gratitude — kids waving from windows or neighbours stepping outside to say thank you. One he’ll never forget was in 1982, when a severe sleet and windstorm hit after the Ocean Ranger tragedy. Bob and his crew spent 31 days on Bell Island, working around the clock and sleeping on a school floor until every customer had power restored. From climbing poles mostly by hand to operating modern bucket trucks, Bob has witnessed major changes in safety and technology. But one thing that hasn’t changed, he says, is the commitment of Powerline Technicians to step up during storms, no matter the hour or the weather. Outside of work, Bob enjoys traveling and spending time with his daughter, Chelsea, and grandchildren, Jackson and Jordyn. As Newfoundland Power celebrates 140 years, we also celebrate Bob’s five decades of dedication and service. Bob is the power in our story.
Meet Rick, Materials Handler Lead Hand based out of St. John’s Duffy Place, who has been part of the Newfoundland Power family for an incredible 51 years. Originally from Torbay, Rick’s connection to the company runs deep — both of his parents worked here, with his mother, Elizabeth, in Finance, and his father, Richard, as a Driver Groundsman. Inspired by that family legacy, Rick has built his career among great people and in a positive atmosphere. He’s proud to have helped major projects reach completion and to have trained many new employees over the years. One moment he’ll never forget is the 1984 sleet storm, when crews worked tirelessly to restore power across the island. Outside of work, Rick enjoys spending time with his grandchildren, Jacob and Taylor, who keep him busy and smiling.
When wildfires impacted our communities in the summer of 2025, five of our own stepped forward on the front lines. We are proud to recognize Roger, Mike, Darren, Anthony, and Justin for their incredible service as volunteer firefighters. Their courage and dedication, supported by their colleagues at Newfoundland Power, reflect the strength of our team and our commitment to being there for our communities – whenever and wherever we are needed. Thank you, Roger, Mike, Darren, Anthony, and Justin, for showing us what community spirit truly looks like. Roger
Roger, from Cavendish in Trinity Bay, is in Power Plant Maintenance (Mechanical) based out of Heart's Content and has been part of the Newfoundland Power team for 15 years. He has volunteered with the Trinity South Central Fire Department for nine years. Roger finds fulfillment in helping communities and their residents stay safe during emergencies. When he isn’t working, he enjoys hunting, fishing, playing sports, and spending time socializing with family and friends.
Mike
Mike grew up in Bay de Verde and now lives in Bay Roberts. He has been with Newfoundland Power for seven years, working in Electrical Maintenance out of Carbonear. Additionally, Mike serves as Fire Chief with the Bay Roberts Fire Rescue and has been a part of the fire service for 14 years. The most rewarding part of volunteering for him is being able to serve his community in times of need. Outside of work and firefighting, he’s a proud dance and hockey dad, and loves spending time fishing with his wife and children at their special family spot.
Darren
Darren lives in Northern Bay and is a Meter Reader who works out of our Carbonear office. He has been with Newfoundland Power for 30 years and has volunteered with the North Shore Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years. For Darren, firefighting is one of the most rewarding ways to give back to the community, as you can see the impact of your efforts immediately in helping others. Outside of work and volunteering, he enjoys spending time outdoors, whether it’s hunting, fishing, or simply being with his family.
Anthony
Anthony is from Victoria and works out of our Carbonear office as Supervisor, Client Services. He has been with Newfoundland Power for four and a half years and has spent almost 15 years volunteering with the Victoria Volunteer Fire Department, where he now serves as Deputy Fire Chief. For Anthony, the most rewarding part of being a firefighter is the strong sense of family and unity within the department, as well as knowing their efforts directly improve community safety. Outside of work, he enjoys hiking, gardening, and spending plenty of time at the firehall.
Justin
Justin is from Upper Island Cove and works out of our Whitbourne office as Manager, Area Operations. He has been with Newfoundland Power for nearly 12 years and has volunteered with the Upper Island Cove Fire Department for the past six. For Justin, the most rewarding part of being a firefighter is the sense of community and being there for people in their worst moments to provide comfort and safety. He values knowing that his efforts truly make a difference. In his spare time, Justin enjoys being outdoors and spending quality time with his family.
Jackie, based in Gander, has worked with Newfoundland Power for 7.5 years and says she was drawn to the company’s strong community presence and commitment to innovation. In her role as Transportation Analyst, she enjoys being part of a forward-thinking team, improving processes, and using data to make work more efficient. Jackie manages telematics, which is used to track and monitor our vehicles remotely in real time. This helps with things like improving safety, outage response times, and environmental impact. A proud highlight of her career was speaking at a North American conference where she showed how Newfoundland Power is leading the way in harnessing telematic data. Outside of work, Jackie loves snowmobiling, boating, swimming, golfing, gardening, and spending time at the cabin with her nieces. She is also a dedicated community volunteer. We were proud to cheer Jackie on as she carried the torch in the 2025 Canada Games Torch Relay — a recognition of her community dedication, positive outlook, and volunteer spirit.
Meet Gregory, a Powerline Technician (PLT) Lead Hand from Calvert who is based in St. John’s. He has spent the past 16 years in the line trade — a career inspired by his uncle, a fellow PLT and role model. Gregory enjoys the variety in his day, from underground work to troubleshooting and more. The most rewarding part of his job is seeing a complex, hazardous task completed safely and knowing it truly makes a difference. One standout moment was restoring power after a storm and watching kids cheer from their doorsteps, a reminder of the real impact his work has on customers. PLTs can be called out at any time, day or night, and brave harsh weather conditions. For Gregory, National Line Worker Appreciation Day (July 10) is a meaningful way to recognize those efforts and the vital role PLTs play every day. Who knows, maybe Gregory’s daughter Grace will follow in the family's footsteps!
